Horticulture of GHMC-Tarnaka Division does not respond to complaints even after 3 months

The citizens of Hyderabad consistently are in a bad state of civic facilities with the Horticulture Team sleeping over the complaints the colony residents make in tarnaka division. With the monsoon season on and the trees/branches not being able to withstand even a decent gale, the residents of Kimtee Colony, Tarnaka are facing a lot of trouble.

Upon asking the residents share their daily ordeal where they have to walk in the dark streets with no street lights working. A few streetlights are covered with the overly grown trees that the working streetlight's glow does not even reach the ground.


One resident from the same Kimtee Colony states that he had files a complaint with Horticulture team of G.H.M.C requesting them to prune a branch of the tree at his residence on 24th April'16 and the case is still open and not one has even called to know what the problem was. I had called up the Urban Biodiversity Manager, Smt. A. Aruna Jyothi who is the responsible officer for our area multiple times and the only cliche response we received was we will send the team to look into the issue in 3-4 days.

Couple of times she did give us the reason saying due to the heavy winds that lashed the city a few days go, they have too many requests they are attending to and the concerned team was busy with that task hence they are not able to attend to the less priority cases; which as citizens we also understand as the situation was critical for all of us.

But even after almost three months of the complaint, it has not been taken care of. We work in a Multinational company and return back home at 3am after doing a night shift and to walk in the lane without lights, too many stray dogs, etc. has become a part of our life that we need to get used to live with. Lately, we also get to see many tweens taking the advantage of these dark vantage points to do drugs, get into fights, play music at 3-4am causing a lot of nuisance in the colony. We have two such lights where they are not wokring and the different team that repairs the lights told me that they are not able to reach the lamp to repair is due to the branches of the tree and horticulture team needs to fix this.

We have another citizen, resident of borabanda who had made a request on the GHMC portal about New Streetlight to be installed in the Parvathnagar area after selecting the appropriate option on the portal provided for the citizens. To his surprise the officer incharge closed the complaint stating that I need to give the complaint in Writing to the Zonal Commissioner/EE Electrical.

Now if I have to go to the GHMC office for the request of new installation, then why do I have an option on the portal to request one? I thought the portal was put up for citizens, so the request can be made quicker, faster and convenient for all involved with complaining and fixing the problem.

We just want the GHMC to be honest with us, either say what you mean and give us the services you say you would, or do not give us options which are nothing but an eye wash.

We are not sure if the GHMC officers have any kind of accountability for their tasks, to close the complaints with any specified timeline etc. Surely there might be none, as the complaints as old as 3 months are still open and not even assigned to anyone incharge shows how serious the authorities are about it. How can a complaint be left like that? Does no one question these AE/EE's?

Let us hope that the officers of GHMC wake up before someone permanently sleeps due their negligence.
